'Web service' (also Web Service) is defined by the W3C as "a software system designed to support interoperable machine-to-machine interaction over a network". Web services are frequently just Web APIs (application programming interfaces) that can be accessed over a network, such as the Internet, and executed on a remote system hosting the requested services.

MDS now supports the ability to interact with any program or application via a standardized WSDL (Web Services Description Language) interface.

Any application or screen can be extended using the web services tool kit to allow interaction from another program. 

Examples of this web service kit in action include our MDS Web Pricing Module. 

The flexibility and advanced capabilities of the MDS pricing engine are one of the reasons the MDS platform is a standout in the ERP marketplace. With Markup %, Cost Plus, List Less, and Gross profit calculations as well as multiple units of measure and quantity break pricing the MDS system offers extensive pricing capabilities. Add on the MDS Contract and Rebate Module and the pricing matrix gives you the tools to succeed as your enter each line item.

Previously clients of the MDS system were locked into uploads or downloads for sales reporting purposes and sales force automation tools had to rely upon this data which was never real-time.

Now Using the MDS Web Services Toolkit Pricing can be exposed to that an external program can make a call to MDS to determine the correct price using all of the variable data passed to it and return the correct price in Real-Time.
